The competition

We are looking for original, “Afro-centric” glasses designs, from any African artists, designers, and aspiring creatives. You don’t have to be an eyewear designer to participate.

Chosen designs in six (6) categories will be created by the Wazi team using sustainable materials. Please include the materials, colors and any other specifications you envision with your design. Categories include: Adult - men, Adult - women, Adult - Unisex, Children - girls, Children - Boys, and Children - Unisex

Who can enter?

ANY designers and artists can enter - individuals or teams of creatives based in or working in Africa.

What can I win?

One grand prize winner will receive £1500 in cash

3 winners from each category will get:

● Potential paid future design work for Wazi

● Potential to earn a share of profits on any pair of your glasses designs sold

● Promotion of your brand and story on the Wazi website and in social media channels. For existing fashion brands, the eyewear can be co-marketed as a collaboration with Wazi

● Inclusion of your photo and story with every pair of your glasses sold

Who is Wazi?

Wazi is the first prescription eyewear brand designed, manufactured and distributed in Africa

Every pair of Wazi glasses is created in Uganda using sustainable, upcycled, locally-sourced materials - like plastic, wood, barkcloth, recycled fabric and horn. Launched in 2017, Wazi’s vision is to bring high quality, locally made, fashion forward glasses to men, women and children, at a price more people can afford.

By submitting to this open call, you agree to give Wazi full exclusive rights to the design unless otherwise stipulated in a prior contractual agreement.

This means eyewear that is designed with African context and cultures in mind. Be it the materials used, the design, or the colors. We are looking for authentic African stories to be told through the designs submitted.
